I want to use something in the kitchen to kill fruit flies when I see them, but obviously, I don't want to get any chemicals on the couter tops or food. Is there any non-toxic home remedies for fruit flies?

  1. One way is to fill a jar or large glass half full with fruit juice, vinegar or sugar water, fashion a funnel from a sheet of paper, and insert the funnel into the jar.  The pesky critters will fly into the jar and not be able to get out.  Your kitchen can be spotless and they will still be attracted by particles of fruit or vegetables that are in your sink traps or even a closed trash can.

  2. eh. takes a little skill; you could use a fly swatter or a spray bottle of water and some tissue.

  3. Yes. Get a jar and put a small piece of fruit in it.

(also, another effective additive is using vinegar in place of fruit)

After you have it in jar, cover it with a piece of saran wrap and

secure it in place with a rubber band. Then poke some holes,

(like using a fork ) but not too many, and then the fruit flies

will fly in, but can not get out. Bring jar outdoors and discard.

I would also suggest cleaning the entire area and checking for

some decaying fruit to eliminate the reason they are there!

and, good luck! Hope this works for you as it did for me!
