And before you say it, I won't be persauded to get new tyres. It's only a small hole, but when I inflated the inner tube to eighty PSI I had a blowout. What could I use to cover or repair the hole?

  1. cut a piece of old tyre and stick it to the inside of your tyre wall

  2. If you're botching a hole with a piece of rubber then inflating to 80psi, expect total collapse the first corner you turn into at speed, together with possible spinal injuries. Go to the local tip and scavenge a tyre off a scrap bike - thats what i do.

  3. A piece of tyre inside the tyre and glued in place.

  4. a layer or two of duck tape(gaffer tape) inside the tyre about 6inches long.  a lot thinner than a piece of old tyre, and it is water proof and wont degrade like a dollar bill etc. it will stick in place and when pumped up will be as good as new.

  5. The product the Leigh linked you to is what you want....or something similar if you can rig it up.  Pieces of tyvek envelope, powerbar wrappers, dollar bills, etc. all work as decent emergency repairs but if you want something more durable then pick up some of those tire boot adhesive patches.  I've used them a few times and they work great.  Park advertises them as emergency repair but I've had two of them in different tires that have lasted for about a year and two years of hard trail and street riding.

Duct tape isn't strong enough (if it's a really teeny hole you could give it a try, but if your tube blew out of it already it's probably too big for duct tape to work well), and you don't want to mess with trying to glue a tire/rubber patch in there because it'll cause you tube or inflation troubles.

Since you had a blowout there, be sure to inspect the inner casing carefully to be sure it's worth patching.  If layers are torn or delaminating it may be best to get a new tire instead.

  6. a small hole in the sidewall of a tyre repair kit

Try one of these. It should work great on a small hole.

  8. a simple way to repair it is-" put a small piece of old tyre inside your tyre "

  9. First off, is it a hole or a rip?

Assuming that it is a hole, get an old toothpaste tube.  Clean and cut out a reasonable sized square to act as a patch.  Clean the inside of the tyre and, once dried, superglue in place.

To repair the outside, take an old inner tube and melt some of the rubber (You can either ruin an old bowl for this and then drip some over the hole from the outside.

Re-inflate, being careful that you don't get sharp edged or folds from the toothpaste lining, as this may puncture your tube.

  10. Super glue.

  11. Use some kind of hard to tear fabric, like a dollar bill, or a plastic sheet. By the way, the dollar bill trick is a useful one in cases where you tear your tires (tyres) when outside.

I recommend a sticker, the plastic thicker kind.

  12. a simple patch should do the job.  should be able to pick one up at your local cycle shop.
