Question:

What can I use to stop my hair going green when I swim in chlorinated pools?

I have white hair! Naturally white, been that way since I was in my late teens. About 2 years ago, we had a pool put in and we use it every day in summer. Only problem is that my white hair goes decidedly green! Any suggestions to prevent or remove the green? I have tried purple shampoos without any noticeable difference.

  1. Nexxus has a shampoo to get the green out. Works great. You can view it on their site. Nexxus.com

  2. Purple shampoos wont do anything, as they are more used for toning brassiness (warm color) out of blond. Whereas green is a cool color... it wont shift it.

There are two things that you can do.

    1. Go to the hairdresser, talk to them about it, there are specific shampoos, cond. and products for this exact situation.

    2. A little trick i learnt from my boss... get a spray bottle, add 3/4 water and 1/4 cond, spray your hair with it BEFORE you go swimming, making sure that your hair is thoroughly covered with it. When you get out, rinse your hair with fresh water.

    Hope this helps :)

EXTRA: You will need to get a shampoo/cond to get rid of the green tinge first before you use the 2nd trick

  3. Before you get in the pool, wet your hair down and comb thru some leave in conditioner. After swimming, shampoo your hair with a good clarifying shampoo.

  4. i know this will sound really wierd but trust me i tried at and it actually worked for me on holiday. i also heard someone talking about doing the same thing in the airport.

all you need to do is just comb through your hair with a mix of tomato sauce and conditioner to help it go through properly. leave it in for an hour or so or for best results sleep with it in.

it may smell bad (especially if you hate tomato sauce like me but when you wash it out it's all gone and nobody will ever know.)

something in the sauce removes the colouring. so no need to go out especially shopping. just add extra tomato sauce onto your shopping list! it can be ketcup or tomato puree or anything.

i didn't think it would work but it really did.

    JUST LIKE MAGIC!

  5. baby oil.... this will prevent the water/chlorine entering the hair -----

just remember to get it out use your shampoo on DRY hair or it will be impossible to get the oil out.

failing that tomato sauce will neutralize the green tones its the opposite on the colour wheel (hairdressing terms). its due to the colouring agents used in tomato sauce. i used to have to do this to my hair so i know it works

apply to dry hair wrap in cling-film

    leave for 20mins and rinse

    the green has gone!!!!
