What can I use to treat a mouse wound?

My mouse caught mites, "we think when my Aunts dog came to visit", I caught it early and got rid of them. Unfortuently the bites itch and my Fancy Mouse Artimis keeps scratching, she's scratched so much that she's opened wounds. Since the wounds are trying to heal, she keeps scratching the scabs off and making them larger because the healing process itches. I wanted to know if there's anything I can put on them to 1, make them stop itching, and 2, keep them disinfected. If you could help, I'd greatly appreciate it, so would Artimis.

  1. Cut her nails just a little to take off the point. If you are afraid to do this than just file them like I said just to take the sharp point off. You can use triple antibiotic ointment or neosporin for wounds. Its completly safe for them. Just apply it to the area 3 times a day. She will keep the area clean with her daily grooming. It should heal with ointment in a couple of days.

  2. Yes. You can put antibiotic ointment on the wound. I read this in my rodent book and had to do this to my gerbil after he got in a fight.

  3. Go to a local market and look for itching ointment. And use some Neo-sporin. Dont take it to the vet. Vets for little critters are VERY expensive. I hope little Artimis gets better. :] Good luck.

  4. take it to the vets its the only way

  5. I would clean with warm water. Then apply a small amount of neosporin without the pain releiver in it. Try to file nails so they are not as sharp. If they do not heal and get better I would say to call a vet and see if oral antibiotics would be a better avenue to take. Good luck to you and Little Artimis. (Love the name.))

  6. Neosproin is fine to put on the wounds.  Just make sure there's not a lot extra for her to l**k off.  Put some on your finger and dab it on the wounds.  That's the best thing to do.

    Hope she heals up quickly.

  7. you could put her in a shallow pan with luke warm water and put a little baking soda in there that should releive the itch, just make sure to dry her off well so she doesnt catch a cold, then when she is dry put  some neosporin on the wounds and pat it with a paper towel so she doesnt get to sticky.
