What can I wear to a restaurant with a "smart casual" dress code?

Would a simple little black dress suffice? Or should I step it up a notch?

yeah, a little black dress w/some pretty silver (or gold) jewlery to play it up and do ur hair nice =)

& ur boyfriend should wear black pants or like just nice pants and a nice button up

a nice cocktail dress but you can wear a nice white blouse.. with a little bit of a neckline.. an elegant white blouse and a neat black skirt... and nice black shoes.. to go with it..  and perhaps black pantyhose... and a nice hairdo..  or a pantsuit.. a nice one... definitely no long evening gown.. don't overdress.. . smart casual means... he doesn't have to wear a suit.. he could wear smart linen pants.. a white shirt and a tie.. and carry a light weight jacket. that looks smartish or he could wear a blazer.. and some nice shoes that compliment the outfit and nicely goomed hair .. for him too.. you can wear some make up.. not too much and some jewellety.. .. ''Less i more.. rather one really nice piece of jewellery that goes well with the rest of the outfit than to wear too much jewellery.. and a watch everyone can wear that....If you have long hair you can put your hair up.. and adorn it with a nice hair pin... and if you have dark hair.. gold jewellery looks better and if you have pierced ears.. and you wear your hair up.. then dangling creoles with some zirconia or diamond studs look great or any other gold earrings.. and if you are blonde.. Silver looks better... I find.. if you have dark eyes don'[t use blue eye shadow.. but you can use golden tones and earth tones or greens.. if you are blonde you can wear blues... for your eyes... a simple belt if you have a nice one can be enough for a black cocktail dress.. you don't even need that.. you can also wear a red one.. who says all cocktail dresses have to be black.. but if you got a black one.. that's is never wrong... and instead of a belt and a jacket you could wear a neck scarf that matches the dress..plus it won'[t be so hot but that would look best if the cocktail dress has a tiny bit of cleavage...   x*x

You would each be fine with a pair of khakis and nice shoes.  No jeans, tees, athletic wear or sneakers.
