  1. cool! enjoy it! suit and tie sounds good...

  2. You could always wear a nice dress shirt (long sleve) with a dress vest with or without tie and some nice dress slacks preferably black. You could also wear a suit without a tie. Or a i hate to say it a sweater vest and nice slacks. Or a sport coat with a nice turtle neck or semi dress shirt with or without tie. 3. For "dressy" occasions, I'm partial to black slacks, a dress vest, and either a dark-colored silk shirt or a lighter-colored cotton dress shirt (a light-colored silk shirt is just a bit too flashy for something like an opera).

It might be just where I'm from, but a "nice steakhouse" says to me "somewhere that bans denim jeans but where one could still find people who would be better off eating in a feed stall."  I was (unwillingly) raised in the south, and my impression of a steakhouse is a place where peanuts are routinely shelled on the floor and every meal is served with a steak knife the size of the Chef's knives I use at home.

  4. if the opera is at a university or auditorium, you can dress in slacks and tie or church attire.... But if it is at an opera house, then you really should where a tux with a bow.

  5. Hi Laro,

The last several times that I have gone to the opera, I have noticed that men were not wearing ties nor jackets.  I was a bit surprised to see this but was informed that this is becoming the trend at opera houses, at least in this city.  Well, as far as the steakhouse is concerned, I guess it depends; you might just want to call and find out if there is a tie and jacket requirement.

    Have a great time!    =D

  6. You can pretty much wear anything to the opera or the symphony but the steak house may not let you in without a tie or a tie and jacket (although they may have loaners).  Give them a call and ask what their dress code is.  However, if it's a special occasion, a suit and tie is always approapriate.
