What can I write in a card to my little sister for getting her first teaching job?

My sister graduated from college December 2007 and just landed her first “real” teaching job for this school year. She will be teaching Kindergarten. She’s great with children, always happy and has a wonderful, free “child-level” spirit. I’m sending her a congratulations greeting and though I often have so many words of wisdom, insight into life and many more, I am left wordless. I’m the comedian in the family and have started the message with a joke, but on the serious side, more than just an “I’m proud of you,” “From small beginnings come great things,” or a simple “Congrats,” I wanted to write something a little more heartfelt. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  1. How about something along the lines that you're proud of her.

  2. draw an apple inside-

or give her a sheet of star stickers inside

    youre  the star!

  3. Can you please include more information. Like what grade she'll be teaching, and if you want the card to be funny/heart warming/etc?

  4. What a nice idea, it sounds like you are really putting a lot of thought into this.  I don't know your sister, but here are some general ideas:

Tell her that you know she will be making a difference in every child's life.  Great teachers have the ability not just teach, but to inspire.  Let her know what an inspiration she will be to the little ones.  In kindergarten, children really learn the basics of school - the daily routine, how to behave, how to share, etc.  She is setting the children up for their entire school career and giving them a solid foundation.  Kindergarten is where the kids learn the building blocks of schooling, and that is sooo important!  Your sister's job is to set kids up on the right path for success from the very beginning.  She is also going to be a positive role model for kids.  Many times, kids spend more time with their teachers than they do with their parents, so if that's the case, she will be like a second mother to her students.

If you want, you could also purchase her the book called All I Ever Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum.  It's a great short read, and it's so true!
