I hear a lot of photographers have photoshop and you have to buy it, so before I buy it I want to know what it can actually do to edit your photos.

  1. If you start depending upon Photoshop to correct mistakes you make while using your camera, you are doomed to spend more time in front of the computer than actually shooting ... what fun is that.  I don't know any photographers who shoot for a living that do much more than shoot the assignment, append the files with their copyright notice and then edit (sort) the images to get the best of the best in to a file folder.  That is it! If any post production is necessary, it means they didn't do their job when the camera was in their hands.

  3. I am a portrait photographer and I rely on photoshop as much as my camera. Photoshop gives digital images that oomph that film has. With photoshop I am able to sharpen my images, getting rid of the digital fog; enhance the color with the help of the saturation tool and color balance tools. I'm also able to retouch skin and things like that making my clients feel like they look their best. Photoshop isn't only about crazy designs, it also enhances things giving them that little something they are missing without loosing the bones of the original image.

  4. You can pretty much do anything and you can download it for 30 days from Adobe.com to check it out

    Good luck!

  5. plenty of things...but it doesnt do it you do...i would suggest a book or a course otherwise you wont be doing anything with it

  6. I agree that photo shop is no substitute for good photography but it can make a good photo into a great with manipulations that could be done in the dark room too. The basics are you can adjust the brightness and contrast of the pictures. You can crop, you can dodge and burn. There is a reason it is called a digital dark room.  You have a lot more to tools to enhance your photo with.  Photo shop cannot take a bad photo and make it into a good one but it can take a good photo and make into a great one- the same as manipulating the image in the dark room did.  The only difference is now there are more options for more creativity in post process.

  7. Photo shop is an amazing program that can do anything that you can think of doing to a picture, you just need to kn ow how to use the program! have a look at some of the things that i have done with it on my flickr account

It is a complicated program and if you are going to get it then get a book on how to use because it is not the easiest to navigate if you don't know what you are looking at how ever it is the most effective program i have ever used

Hope this helps you happy editing! :-)

  8. Photoshop is wonderful! It is having the world of creativity at your hands.

Yes, you can do your basics of cropping, resizing, brightness, contrast, color correcting, etc.  And all of those things are great to have access to correct your photos.

BUT you also can use photoshop to enhance your photos.  Like let's say portraits.  You can use the clone tool to clean up any blemishes on the skin.  You can use the dodge tool to whiten the teeth and the whites in the eyes.  You can use that clone tool again to take out wrinkles, freckles, or scars on the face.  You also can use the liquify tool to give someone bigger lips, open a drooping eyelid, or make someone's nose smaller ( a cheap nose job! ).

Also, there are so many options as far as plug ins that go along with Photoshop that allow you to do so many cool and interesting effects with your photos.

I wish I was a perfect photographer and could create all the images I see in my mind with just the camera.  But Photoshop has been my tool to creating mysterious, beautiful macro photos like no one has ever seen.

Most people do not want to have to depend on Photoshop to do work.  But it certainly opens up a GREAT BIG DOOR of OPPORTUNITIES to create gorgeous images.

Either way, you are an ARTIST!
