One of my friends is currently 14 years old and he asked me if i knew any ways to make money over the summer. Do you guys have any ideas? He is trying to make 200$ to buy an ipod touch over craigslist.

Mowing lawns/Babysitting/Paper Route/ Does not work around these neighborhoods.

What are some stores he could work at if he got a work permit.

  3. He could try a survey site that excepts members 13 and up. He could make an extra 50-100 dollars a month with the site. Here is a little information about the site and payment proofs http://mekap04.googlepages.com/home

  5. Because state laws regulate the days, hours, and duties that a minor can work and since a work permit is required, contact the local board of education and/or school's guidance office for advice in regards to fast food, retail sales, etc. for the scoop. They often receive leads from local employers looking for teens.

If traditional employment is out for him, he should use his time and talents for his own business and while yard work and baby sitting may not be practical, there are other products and/or services that can prove to be profitable. Let's face it... you make more money working for yourself than for an employer and setting up a business isn't that hard.

Check your local library for some of the many books written for teens and tweens like "Fast Cash for Kids" by Bonnie & Noel Drew. The Librarian can help conduct a search of other titles in the collection. There is some excellent inspiration, advice and motivation in those books.

Further, check out Junior Achievements. They are a legitimate organization that can offer advice and counseling and networking. The link is below.

Leave no stone unturned in a search for using your skills and passions. It's all about finding and filling a need.

  6. When I was 15 I worked as a camp counselor and it made me $1500 in 6 weeks with very little effort. Otherwise, he could try selling some of his c**p. You'd be surprised what people pay for some things like old books and stuff.
