  1. I took out a racoon right behind the ear, with a .177 1000fps rifle from about 65yards, so a well placed shot will do it

  2. I killed a ground hog with one of those pellet guns.  I hit it in the lung from a short distance and found it dead in its hole.  It ran 20 ft and died.  I have killed birds with it too.

  3. In Texas you can kill about 5 years in the pen for using a pellet gun on game animals.

See page bottom half of page 54

  4. Well, a .22 pellet at 1,000 fps is actually trucking along faster than a .22 subsonic.  So it'll kill anything a subsonic (or .22 Short) will.  The airgun, of course, will lose energy quicker so it will strictly be a short-range affair.  With head shots you should be able to take all the critters you've listed.

  5. It should handle them ok. I ve killed squirrels with a.177 cal 650 fps. Oh and my neighbors cat..

  6. Head shots only from close range on those larger animals.

  7. while the .22 cal has more mass the .177 has more speed and penetration so actually it's the more ideal pellet gun. I was the instuctor for a ladies rifle team that was practicing at the ROTC range. One day there was a man that was practicing with a very high power .177 that had a large scope on it. This guy claimed to be a former CIA specialist and after talking with him awhile he told me that assinations of people have taken place using a high powered pellet gun and the reason the pellet gun was used because there is no muzzle flash and since there is no recoil you can shoot a much tighter group which translates to placing the shot exactly where you want it to be. I'm not totally sure this man was actually CIA but i do know that in order to use this range that you need to be either connected with the military or be granted permission by the Army to use this range and it's not open to the average public. I do know that people can be killed if they are struck directly in the eye so I would assume with plenty of practice and proper placement you could kill most small game. Back to this man he explained that you had to even time your heart beats because even a heart beat at the wrong time could slightly move your rifle and increase the size of your group. He showed me his target and there was a group of 5 shots that looked under the size of a .22 bullet

  8. Depends on the pellet and if your state allows the use of airguns for hunting really. With the normal pellets you get from a store, you can kill small game (mouse/rats, pigeons doves, rabbit, squirrel, chipmunk, jackrabbit). For fox, raccoon, and possum you need to be careful about your limiting your shots to close range and are very careful about where you put the pellet; but nothing really any bigger than that.

There are some fellas out there making solid pellets (essentially a regular rifle slug) which might work well on slightly larger game (and work better on Fox, possum, and raccoon) since they should boost the kinetic energy to roughly the same level as a .22 short. But it will also carry about as far as a .22 short...
