  1. There are so many things you can eat - all the veggies and grains you want.

You can eat veggie burgers (watch for milk product in them), but it's best to stay away from items with isolated/concentrated soy protein.  That's not good for you.  Regular soy, like soy milk and tofu, are great in moderation.

  2. no dairy products or meat products. anything soy you can eat.

  3. Vegans can eat all the fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and grains they want!

  4. Soy everything!! You can buy soy milk, soy cheese, and soy ice cream. I just became a vegetarian myself. I don't think I could become completely vegan...I love my cheese too much! But if you are serious about being a vegan, these websites will help you out a lot:

    http://www.peta.org/accidentallyVegan/

These websites helped me a lot. I hope they help you! Good luck!

  5. My son is a vegan, and he's very happy with the selection of foods he's allowed to eat.

He drinks flavored rice milk, water, and lots of juices. He thinks rice milk tastes better than soy milk.

He eats pasta, vegan burgers, nuts, peanut butter, lots of fruits and veggies.  I've even made vegan cookies for him. They make vegan margarine, and there is a powdered egg substitute.

They even make vegan pudding, vegan ice cream, etc.

I will tell you this...it isn't cheap. But he's very happy with his decision to go from vegetarian all the way to vegan.

Vegetarian gives you more options. Whatever you decide...Good Luck.

  6. If you don't know what a vegan eats, why would you want to become one?  I'm really confused by all these budding vegetarians and vegans who have no idea what it actually means.

Vegans eat fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, certain fungi like yeast and mushrooms, oils and everything made from them.  Pretty much any dish you can think of can be made vegan, save for something like meringue that relies heavily on the unique properties of egg whites.

What do you like to eat?  Pick something you like and make it vegan by replacing or eliminating the animal ingredients.  It's really not that complex.

If you don't know how to cook, it's going to be tougher.  Check out a copy of "Veganomicon" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero - it's got lots of good basic information on vegan meal planning and lots of mix-and-match bean, grain and vegetable recipes so you can make simple complete meals.

If you don't know what a vegan eats, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you also don't know where vegans get their nutrients.  "Becoming Vegan" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina is a must; they are both registered dietitians and it's basically the bible of vegan nutrition.  Read and learn.

  7. Lots of food. You could look up a vegan recipe book if you want, but yes veggie burgers are fine...however, a lot of brands have egg and/or milk in them, so you need to read labels. You can eat veggies, fruit, pasta (without any butter, meat sauce, etc), rice, breads that don't have milk, egg, or honey in them, soups like vegetable soups, beans, all kinds of varieties of nuts and seeds(watch out for honey roasted, though..honey's from bees)...it's all about reading labels. Amy's organics will say ''(vegan)'' at the beginning of ingredient lists if the product is vegan, and a lot of those products are...not all, though...not all. When reading labels also, ''gelatin'' is something you don't want in your product.

  8. You could always try going vegetarian first and then slowly cutting out the non vegan foods if you really want to go vegan. It might make it a bit easier for you, also less of a shock to the system and will give you time to learn about veganisim.

A good place to start reading up though is http://www.vegsoc.org/ and even if you look up on google you'll find so much information on both vegetarianism and veganism.

    Oh, and Soy.

    Yummy.

    Good Luck!

  10. It's great that you're trying to go vegan. There's so much to eat!

Fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains

Fake meats that don't contain eggs or dairy

Non-dairy products like soy milk, soy cheese, vegan cream cheese, vegan mayo, soy ice cream, etc.

You can have vegan versions of your favorite non-vegan foods. Examples: grilled cheese made with soy cheese, pasta with vegan meatballs, subs with vegan deli slices and vegan mayo... the possibilities are endless!

Here's a list of popular vegan products:
