To day 2 of my step-grand children, stopped to visit with my husband Doug and me they are 12 and 14 they were always so good when they came to visit us, but today the 14 year old told me that when he was living in Red deer that the teachers asked his parents to put him on some drug, that was like Riddling,ok I know that I am not his real grandmother not that it matters. Ok!! Can a grandparent fight to get the child off this drugs? Please anyone please tell me if grandparents have any rights?

  1. Granparents dont realy have much control over there grandchildrens lives

but you can defently influence your child a lot if you hav a good relationship with them

    good luck

  2. unfortunately, no. this is up to the parents and the doctor.

  3. yes scream about it do somethinhg its not right im 13!!!!!!!!god stick up for him tell his parents i mean god dont just sit there

  4. The drug is Ritalin and it is for people who have Attention Deficit (sometimes Hyperactivity) Disorder... ADHD.  Talk to the parents and see if they feel that the child needs some help with it.  Maybe the teacher feels that he is unable to concentrate at school and this may help him.  I don't think there is anything that YOU can do other than make sure that his parents understand everything about the drug and the disorder.

My daughter has ADHD but she does not take Ritalin right now because she still has the ability to concentrate at school.  However, my husband (her Dad), took Ritalin as a child for ADD (without the hyperactivity) and, in hindsight, feels that putting him on Ritalin was one of the best things that his parents could have done for his education.  He can now remember how is was always being yelled at to sit down, stop talking, pay attention... and how he lacked the ability to concentrate on any one thing for more than 3 or 4 minutes at a time.  There are some pretty scary side-effects to taking Ritalin (like all other drugs) and my husband said that (now thinking back) after he started taking it his appetite decreased substanitially... so this is, by no means, a miracle cure and should be evaluated carefully.

  5. no,  if you have a problem mention it to his parents.  thats all you can do.
