What can an MRI tell me about my baby?

My newborn has been in the NICU for the past 4 days (since birth). He had an MRI today. I'm waiting here for the Dr. to call me back for results. What kind of disorders can a MRI find related to seizures?

My baby has also had a lumbar puncture, CT and EEG with all normal results....

  1. An MRI can give the doctor a more precise and three-dimensional view of the body parts in question. They may be looking for any obstructions in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and the spinal cord. They may also be looking for any lesions or masses within the brain or spinal cord that may induce seizures or any congenital anomalies, nerve injuries, etc.. Your doctor and/or radiologist are your best sources of information with regards to MRI testing on your baby. Good luck! Remember, be persistent, but diplomatic when trying to get answers about the status of your baby.
