I want to work in an office for instance, but I'm finding it impossible to learn how to copy something and type it. My main problems are typing , spelling and writing, not reading.

  1. The site below shows you practical ways to beat adult dyslexia. The idea is to be as independent and productive as possible. You can do it. My own work with dyslexia has shown many miracles.

  2. Tutorials-http://tutoringsite.info/

  3. There are some typing tests online that you could try. And just  keep trying, I guess. Good luck to you.

see if these website can help you.

  4. well, there's always spellcheck to help some with the typing and spelling. good luck!

  5. the problem lies in your ability to encode the written symbol not in decoding.  Ultimately however, it may all probably be traced to your verbal abilities with the sound system of the language.

I would recommend a programme of phonological awareness.

  6. There are lots of ways around this.  For example, there are voice recognition programs where you speak and the computer copies down what you say.  Plenty of offices have administrative assistants who can fix things for you.  Also, there are a ton of careers where you don't have to type or spell.  For example, in fundraising, you can work in an office and produce special events for charities, and an administrative assistant can send out the letters.  Or you can pay a writer to clean up your work for you, on an as-needed basis.

Look into the book "What Color Is Your Parachute" to find a career that suits you.  Check Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (www.rfbd.org) to see if you can get textbooks on tape so you can listen to them, if that's would be helpful to you.

  7. The first thing you need to do is to teach yourself to touch type, I have included a couple of web sites which have free tutors and speed tests.  This can be slow at first and takes time but you will find it gets easier as you practice.  It is as important to be accurate as fast.

When you have mastered that and have a good speed, around 60 words per minute is average you will need to study a word processing package Microsoft Word is the most common, you can either teach yourself this or find a course in your area. This is probably the best idea as you should get some sort of certification when you have completed the course.

Remember that word processors have a spell checker so you do not have to worry too much about this.

Alternatively you could look for a college course which will cover these and other skills, you can get extra help at college if you are dyslexic.

Then of course you need to find a job maybe start off by looking temp work as this will give you experience and the chance of being offered a permanent job if they like you.
