  2. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking; to simplify connection, leave it "open" with no encryption key. I think the most nodes that can be connected to a single, home use router is 256; you must define this from your router's setup page. Don't connect to that page over the wireless connection; always use a hardwired connection to change router settings. The address of your particular router's setup page can be found from the manufacturer's website, assuming that company still exists. Remember all users connected to a single router are *sharing* the bandwidth of it's WAN connection, so the connection speed will slow down the more users there are. You'll get a range of a couple hundred feet, if there is not much interference; beyond that you'll need some sort of signal amplification system.
