What can be done about bringing race into a courtroom?

This is a discussion in my Intro to the Court System class, and wanted to know what other people think. I think that racism will always be brought up in the courtroom especially if the crime committed is between two different races.

  1. The only way I think it could be done is separate jurors from the trial it self. Then you would have disguise voice patterns that might give away race.

We are human, we all have our preconceivedved notions on race. Maybe turn the process over to computers? Paint everyone gray?

  2. well, it seems that blacks and latinos generally don't respond to jurer summons, while defendants are statistically more likely to be black or latino (in my state anyway) so it's not necessarily a jury of peirs.

  3. Well, since race usually takes into count skin color, its kind of hard not to notice what color someone's skin is.

Go stick your head in the sand, if you buttheads would stop bringing race up so much, there woudlnt be such a d**n problem

  4. Criminals often cite racial prejudice as an excuse and use it to claim they can't get a fair trial.

No intelligent person would want to convict an innocent person because of his race since the guilty person would escape punishment.  I've seen Black jurors and white jurors and they generally agree on the verdict regardless of the race of the defendant.
