  1. In short, parents have to instill right from start a healthy eating plan AND exercise and this has to be carried forward in schools too. Knock off the stupid woodwork lessons and add more exercise lessons, none of the other c**p ,matters if your not a healthy person. People also need to learn self control.

  2. Get rid of takeaways and fast food places such as mcdonalds which are so easily to pick up from the way home from school/work or whatever... also put taxes on unhealthy foods and make healthy food cheaper.. one of the reasons why people eat so much rubbish is because its cheaper (because it basically consists of s**t) than fruit and vegetables.

and and and up the amount of exercise children get in school?

  3. Recently I have got into the habit of looking into over weight peoples supermarket trolleys and I must admit it does shock me what you see.  I have never disallowed my children sweets or crisps but they do prefer to eat fruit.  Convenience foods and carry outs are just to handy for some.

  4. Stop eating. Seriously though, some areas need educating on food and exercise. Some children are not getting good quality food at home and in some cases are being fed rubbish including a high proportion of takeaways, laden with semi-hydrogenated transfats.

Then there is exercise, they are more likely to play Playstation football games, than actually go onto a real field with a real ball. Too many are driven to school in the car, walking less than ever.

  5. Ban eating in public places they did it with smokers

  6. First off let me say some people just have a bad metabolism so there already at a disadvantage to loosing weight however for most people this is not the case. The solution to this problem is people need to get up and exersize. I hate to say it and trust me I love my PC but this one of the biggest reasons why so many americans are overweight but the PC alone is not the cause. We must also factor it TVs (which have more content and channels then ever before) Who needs a movie theather? and funny thing is even when you do go you'll just pig out on some artery clogging food.

There is no way and no way around living a healthy long life without exersizing... Yeah sure's there's surgery but do you even wanna spend that kind of money? Can you keep it off? People don't need to just get out and move more tommorow, they need to make serious lifestyle changes that involve cutting down on TV and computer time.

  7. lol...

What gets me is those programs on TV..

My daughters over weight... but look at the Mother aint it She who buys the food... whats happened to "NO".

Forget diet/low cal foods.. if they really worked the company would be out of business's.

Have you looked at old photos of our parents or gran-parents .. were they overweight? I bet not and there were no low cal foods in them days...

Process foods are the worst things to eat..

and yes I know about being overweight and also to thin for my body mass.

So now I eat anything I like in moderation..

    I was 10st 4lbs when I got married now I'm 12st after 28 years.. heaviest.. 13st 7lbs.

went to 8st once & was really ill GP told me to eat.

  8. Although it is true that some people have metabolic disorders, the vast majority of obese people could significantly improve their weight and health problems with attention to simple measures like diet and exercise. What makes people fat, and how to undo it, is not rocket science ... everyone knows that a healthy diet and regular exercise will help with weight control ... but there needs to be incentives for people to undertake the measures required. In a perfect world, people would choose to become healthy because they had adequate self-motivation to do so. However, sadly, that's often not enough.  Some insurance companies in Australia provide financial incentives for people to control their weight, offering reduced premiums for those within the healthy weight range. Also, because we have an obesity epidemic here, and particularly in children, the government has just recently introduced financial incentives in the form of quite generous grants to schools which introduce good quality health and physical fitness programs. I think that childhood obesity is now so common for two reasons - firstly, most families have two working parents, and are very time-poor ... the family's nutrition suffers as takeaways and fatty convenience snacks become part of the staple diet, and secondly, so many children indulge in very sedentary playtime activities such as Playstation and X-Box instead of active outdoor play. So ultimately, I think it is up to parents, really, to encourage their children to lead healthier lifestyles, and hopefully avoid becoming obese. If we can instill in our children an appreciation for caring for their own health, it will stand them in good stead in later life.

  9. take away the fried fish and chips  along with the beer { ale or whatever it is called } . no more greasy or fried foods is a start.

  10. In France hardly any newsagents sell crisps and snacks as they just eat proper meals and don't eat on the go or inbetween meals.

  11. Poison junk food.

So your choices are healthy food or die.

  12. Mister Gordon Brown wants us to concentrate on the 2012 olpympics so reckons he wants to up the minimum p.e. regime in our schools to encounter a minimum of 5hrs exercise per week.

At the moment it supposedly stands at just 1hr twice a week.

    That is statistically.

Just before the schools broke up in July my 13 yr old son reported to me that in his 1 hour p.e.lesson he used up 19 seconds doing so-called physical exercise playing dodge-ball.

    Bring it on Gordon!

By 2012 he should be just fit enough to run from one end of the gynasium to the other.
