What can be done to cut down on the use of energy in the world?

Electricity -- switch to more efficient electrical system, personal power creation (having a solar panel on your roof might be better than having two somewhere else because our wires are extremely efficient)

Transportation -- more efficient cars (electric, for various reasons), non-car methods of transportation (buses and trains can be much more efficient than cars if they are FILLED to capacity), reduce the use of plane transportation

Commercial -- increase efficiency of stores (go to a box store and count the number of incandescent lights), reduce consumption, consume smarter (for instance, if everyone chose a laptop instead of a desktop, a LOT of power would be saved)

Home -- insulate more, don't turn up your heater/AC to the highest level imaginable, turn off electronics when you are done, buy power strips, choose EnergyStar® appliances, eat locally, try gardening, recycle, buy recycled products, LED BULBS, etc.

I would note, however, that we should reduce energy use in the first world (as much of our energy use is not correlated with a higher standard of living) and we SHOULDN'T try to reduce power use in the third world -- instead, in poor countries we should try to get them to increase their power consumption using CLEAN technology.

ect every little thing like this as more people do it more it will take affect and the planet will be saved ( i hoped :P)

Plan A - A really good old fashion world war would knock down the population and destroy much of the existing infrastructure leading to a huge reduction in energy consumption.

Plan B - Everything else I can think of that would actually make a dent in energy consumption always eventually leads to Plan A.

Force automakers to build every car a hybrid. A real hybrid where the engine is shut off at a stop light. Just doing that will save billions of barrels of oil a year. Instead of common sense things like that, president Bush is begging the Saudi's for more oil. And the morons that think we have so much oil, why is reaching $100 a barrel.

One day we're in drought here. Then the next day its flooding because everyones cut down on the water.
