  1. you need pressure point. if you can find a masseuse that specializes in pressure point but it will be deep and you will hurt for a couple days and if done according to the time frame in which it should be done. you will be going at least 3x in a week for a month to  2 months. What i did was talked to one and she worked with me, i paid about 700.00 for 2 month and it was worth every penny. I believe that if any thing ever happened to my back or hip that is the way i would go before seeing a doctor. On the side that you have the pain let your arms hangs were your middle finger hits is you point to apply pressure to the outer part of the thigh. just something of thumb size and dig it deep back off and dig deep again. drink plenty of water. good luck

  2. When it really acts up, my doctor prescribes Medrol Dose Pack (a steroid to reduce tissue swelling) and Percocet.  I don't take meds for it on a chronic basis, though, only when it's unbearable.  Sometimes I need to use a cane for a few days, too.

  3. This may be piriformis syndrome which is an inflammation of the piriformis muscle deep in the buttocks which impinges on the sciatic nerve. The medication involves physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medicine and deep massage.

I take Aleve which is sold over the counter and is an anti-inflammatory medicine. Icing the area also reduces inflammation.

You can get back ice packs (they connect with velcro) at most pharmacies

The back ice packs sometimes can be connected lower around the buttocks area instead of the lower back if you think that is more effective. However, sometimes the sciatic irritation is at the lower lumbar region which is around waist level.
