My boat has a 8 person limit and a 1160 lbs limit I have a V6 175hp OMC. I/O. If I get over 800lbs (about 5 adults) the boat will not get up enough speed to plain out. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

  1. I don't think you can do anything...

Most production boat manufactures configure their "person" limit based on skinny people (about 145 lbs per adult)... they also configure this on a basis of your fuel tanks being either 1/3 full or 1/2 empty...  So, it you have 800 lbs of people on board, you probably have another 100 lbs of ice,  pop, and gear on board... add to this, 8 lbs per gallon for fuel...  so, if you have 80 gallon fuel tank full of fuel, that is an extra 640 pounds of fuel or 320 pounds more then configured in your maximum load limit.

You don't mention the size of your vessel, but my guess is, that by your stated weight limit - your vessel is simply over weight.

The only real thing that can make any difference in your performance (assuming your motor is ship shape) is the prop.  Have someone check your prop for its size, shape, tilt, and condition, and verify it is the proper one for your vessel and for the conditions you are using it under....

  2. how big is the boat, where is the weight distributed, full fuel tanks how many litres, is the motor trimmed all the way in, is the motor running well or breaking down under load, has it been serviced, what size prop are you running, you may have too fine or too coarse a pitch to get it out of the water, i reckon if you move the people around the boat and try again, if this is no good, try another prop

  3. Have you tried to move weight around and tried to trim the out drive?
