Question:

What can be done to reduce the rate of violent crime in South Africa?

Yes, we know that the crime rate is high. But that's merely the problem. What are some possible solutions?

Re-introduction of the death penalty?

Relocation of prisons to the Kalahari region, so that escapees die?

Allowing the military to conduct anti-crime operations, including shoot-to-kill missions?

Rebuilding the electrified border fences with Mozambique and Zimbabwe?

Automatic execution of foreign criminals, such as Nigerian gang members?

A death penalty for use of a firearm in commission of a crime?

A death penalty for rape?

I obviously don't have many answers, but surely there are SOME realistic measures that can be taken?

  1. A good start would be to bring back the death penalty.

Castration for rapists should become law....keep them alive for a little bit just to suffer then kill the ba$tards.

    Close the borders.

Apply extracts of Sharia Law - you murder, you will be killed

You rape - you will be castrated

You steal - your hands will be chopped off.

it's sounds extreme but these are extreme times and something big needs to happen.

  2. The laws of the country must be changed somewhat to adopt a stricter stance.

The enforcement of the law must be applied at all times.

No corruption in the police force.

Employ and train more policemen, and get them out in the public, doing their duty.

Although bean does not agree with castration because the man´s problem lies in his head. My goodness, when the man cannot make his p***s work, he will not be able to rape anymore. And even some of the males have suggested this measure.

The death sentence must be brought back until murder and shootings have been stopped.

Reduce the amount of legal aid for criminals.

Reduce the amount of comforts and benefits in prison. They are there for punishment and not for a holiday.

Split up all the numbers gangs, if needs be, go back to the chain and shackle method and put them into labour gangs, building stadiums for the world cup or something that is hard  physical work. (Repairing roads or even build a new prison in the Kalahari, like someone suggested.)

The message must be:  CRIME DOES NOT PAY !!!

The government must apply all the laws rigorously.  If they cannot control the murderers, then bring back the death sentence!

*Edit* Bean, the tattoo is a good idea. It should be on the nose so that it cannot be hidden away. If someone has concealed his nose, then it should be assumed he has committed a crime. And ostracised !!!  Like the lepers in the old days.

And Bring back the Scorpions to combat corruption in the government.

  3. Cant agree more with s****.. I can seem to add anything to his idea.

  4. USA JAIL - SOME INTERESTING READING

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF ( ARIZONA ) AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

These are some of the reasons why:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the "tent city jail" to save Arizona from spending tens of millions of dollars on another expensive prison  complex.

He has jail meals down to 20 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He banned smoking and pornographic magazines in the jails, and took away their weightlifting equipment and cut off all but "G" movies. He says:

"They're in jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assault innocent people when they leave."

He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on county and city projects and save taxpayer's money.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only allows the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel, he replied: "So these morons will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs."

He cut off coffee because it has zero nutritional value and is therefore a waste of taxpayer money. When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't  the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He also bought the Newt Gingrich lecture series on US history that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series that actually tells the truth for a change would be welcome and that it might even explain why 95% of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record for June 2nd 2007), the Associated Press reported: About 2,000 inmates living in  a barbed wire surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On the Wednesday, hundreds of men  wearing pink boxer shorts were overheard chatting in the tents, where temperatures reached 128 degrees.

"This is h**l. It feels like we live in a furnace," said Ernesto Gonzales, an inmate for 2 years with 10 more to go. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, who makes his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. "Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for parole, only to go out and commit more crimes so they can come back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things  many taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves."

The same day he told all the inmates who were complaining of the heat in the tents: "It's between 120 to 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to walk all day in the sun, wearing full battle gear and get shot at, and they have not committed any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! If all prisons were like yours there would be a lot less crime and we would not be in the current position of running out of prison spaces.

  5. Those are all good suggestions in my view, the problem lies in getting "the powers that be" to listen , take it into consideration and apply them.

s****.'s suggestions are also good and as he says , sounds drastic , but drastic situations call for drastic measures....

  6. NOTHING CAN BE DOEN..I KNW ALL THE WHITE PPL WILL GIVE ME THUMBS DOWN..BUT GO AHEAD IM USED TO IT..I THINK WHITE PPL HAVE A PROBLEM ACCEPTING THINGS THEY CANT CHANGE..FOR EXAMPLE..THEY WILL NEVER HAVE A WHITE LEADER IN THIS COUNTRY AGAIN..THE ANC WILL RULE SA FOR EVER..THE CRIME AND POVERTY WILL NEVER BE REDUCED!!

  7. Rio Tinto I will vote for you as our new President. With laws like those you will sort out this country within a year!

  8. I WAS IN SOUTH AFRICA LAST SUMMER , THE PEOPLE I I MET IN SWAZILAND WERE VERY KIND AND COMPASSIONATE, I WAS THERE ON A MISSION TRIP, WHAT THE PEOPLE NEED IS THE WORD OF JESUS```` TO BE TOLD HIS LIFE STORY, AND WE WOULD SEE CHANGE.

  9. It's being taken care of for you: 3 million people out of a population of 37 million are HIV infected, with hundreds of new cases daily. It won't be too long and there won't be enough people to commit any crimes.

  10. Most of the things you listed are not going to happen.

The government raised the earning limits for grants, it was R1500 per month now its R2000. So it you earn less that R2k per month you can get grants.

Also they should offer more  food aid to poor communities, homes, job creation. It wouldnt cost that much if the corruption was stopped.

Young people should join clubs - not gangs - that would encourage them to work hard and get an education (sorry Rich Dad/Kiyosaki I think you are wrong here)

Rich people should get tax breaks for donations (If they do already I dont know about it)

Safer public transport would reduce fuel bills and global warming.

Newspapers/magazines should run success stories as much as possible to encourage others to get up and try.

Cutting a rapists part off is not a cure as his problem is in his head, not in his private part.

We should tatoo a P on every paedophiles head. They will be kicked out of communities just like lepers were in Jesus's time.

Prisoners should work in jail to improve the economy (I always heard the chinese prisoners made cheap toys)

PS regarding no castration, I knew a girl who watched her female roommate in reform school being raped by another woman, I laughed it off because how much harm could a woman do to a woman. Then I was told that a coke bottle was used.

There have been other instances where women have been "raped" with coke bottles by men. So really they dont need any private parts if their head is still attached to their necks.

Maybe we should tatoo their heads as well?
