  1. the biggest cause of this is being to hard on them in their 2.y.old career.horses only have so many racing miles in them and it really is down to the owner and trainer to eke out those miles as they se fit.i am afraid that these days, the majority of owners want a fast return on thier money and so the pressure is on the trainer to produce results fast.

  2. I agree with Greyt-Mom, these days some horses are trained very hard as two year olds and come their three year old season they fin it hard to recapture their form.

I believe this is part of the reason why Godolphin no longer have a separate trianer for their two year olds.  I heard on the Newmarket grapevine that it was felt thaty David Loder was pushing the two year olds too far in order to get results that it meant that once the horses transferred to Godolphin as three year olds they were burnt out.

Not a lot can be done to stop this happening and we shouldn't downgrade two year old races as a result - some two year olds can stand up to hard racing, just look at "the pocket rocket" Lyric Fantasy and this year's revalation Kingsgate Native.

  3. It all depends on the breed and training regimen of the horse.

  4. Could you explain more in your question?  I must be dense, I can not place what you are asking. .

  5. I think we might see different outcomes totally in a horses career, if they weren't raced as 2yr olds. Many endure extremes of physical and mental pressure at an age where a lot of them are adversely affected the following year. On the other hand, some will receive very tender handling as a 2yr old, with a view to their 3yr old career.

  6. Part of the problem with a horse not training on is that(especially in America) many horse's are bred to be speedy, precocious youngsters.  If a horse is bred to be at their peak in their 2 year old season it is almost silly to expect them to improve as a 3 or 4 year old.
