Question:

What can be made with unripe apples?

We have a lot of apples comming off our trees that are not ripe.

I was raised not to waste, by a depression era mother. So this is driving me nuts!

Also do you know of any sites that might be helpful. Cooks.com as diverse as it is, has nothing.

  1. You can ripen the apples faster by storing them in a closed paper bag at room temperature.

  2. Make applesauce or apple butter. Just add more sugar. I've done that with green apples and it's great.

  3. Compost them!  Just becuase you don't eat them doesn't mean they will go to waste.

  4. Sour faces?

  5. put them in your oven , sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on them, and you have cooked apples!!!

  6. apple pie?  baked apples with brown sugar?  apple-wall-nut salad with whip cream?

  7. If they are not too unripe, treat them as cooking apples. The higher acid and lower sugar content may make them ideal for pies, sauce, cobblers, and marinades. You might even like the taste eating them as is.
