My neighbors have a problem in their driveway with standing water. They are going to get it fixed but in the mean time it is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Are there any natural things or safe chemicals that can be put in the water to kill and prevent the mosquitoes from breeding in this water?

meanolmaw thanks for the info on the Mosquito Dunks a (2-pack for 6.99) (6-pack 12.99)

  3. A few drops of malathion usually dose the trick for me. ONLY A FEW DROPS. available at plant stores..

  4. a few drops of dish washing liquid will do the trick. it is also safe for animals that my drink it or birds that my bathe in it.

  5. I second the mosquito dunks. I use them in my rain barrel and they seem to help a lot.

  6. go to Lowe's and get some Mosquito Dunks.... problem solved!!... keep the leftovers handy for another job....

  7. One of my state DEQ agents told me this inexpensive, safe remedy. Mineral Oil. A few drops of mineral oil in a puddle, or any container of standing water will deter mosquitos from laying their eggs there. Bleach will deteriorate over time from the sun, the oil will last longer, and isn't harmful to the environment. Actually, any oil will do the trick. Baby oil or vegetable oil works just as well and is harmless. Just be sure to use only a few drops per puddle or container. I have some large stumps on my property that hold water. I treat them this way once or twice each summer.
