  1. The Eurostars on the High Speed Line in Kent - 186mph.

    HST's and Mallards do 125mph (they could and did go faster in the days before black boxes - late running HSTs would often be clocked at 140mph in an attempt to recover time). Virgin's Voyagers and Penolinos are limited to 125mph

    The fastest speed on 'normal' lines is 125mph - beyond that the HSE (who set safety rules) would require in-cab signalling which IIRC is about to commence testing on a rural Welsh line (which is fairly isolated from the main network


  2. running in the UK technically would be the Eurostar, befroe it hits the chunnel.  around the UK i would have to say would be the Virgin Trains.  I always see them moving at speed in excess of 125 MPH, so, i would wager a guess that they are the fastest in the UK, going between London and Edinburgh in only a few hours time.
