What can be used as a hydroponic medium that a person might have at home? Rice? Cotton balls? Weatbix? Others?

I'm going to try rice in one pot and oats in another, see what happens.. Curious.. Probably Mould, unless replaced often but i'm guessing that??

i dunno about any of that stuff,  but lava rock is pretty cheap and works the best in my opinion
