What can cause and oil leak on e30?

Are there some parts need to be replaced. car has about 122k. its 1990 325i

  1. Could be the stuff mentioned above but my 96 318Ti has a leak and it's the front timing cover gasket.   pretty common leak point on these cares. As is the valve cover and even the oil pan.

    Go to a shop where they can put some UV dye in the oil and then use a black light to trace where it's leaking from.   Any or all of these to repair can be expensive to fix.   Hey it's a BMW.   Along with the pleasure of driving these great cars comes the pain of paying for that fun/pleasure.

  2. Where is the leak coming from, it could be a bunch of different places, oil pan gasket, seals, bearings, valve cover???

  3. In the bottom you have just the pan gasket, front and rear seals.  Most of the time the leak is the rear camshaft cover way back there at the rear of the head. Also the pressure switch.. Leaks can be tricky and not be where you think they should be..

    What causes them; usually old age high miles are maybe some past over heating..
