  1. If he's getting bored eating his dog food, change flavors or brands.

Don't give him human food.He will not get the appropriate nutrients he needs.

  2. Vets don't normally recommend that you change foods. But I personally enjoy feeding my dog "prey model" or raw feeding the benefits are outstanding. Check the Yahoo raw forum it's really easy  and you'll love it I'm sure. Changes I've seen already is better coat, cleaner teeth, nicer breath, and he enjoys eating where before he just picked at his kibble.

  3. What kind of dog food are you feeding your Chihuahua? Chihuahuas need a high quality food! If he's getting bored, then try adding a little warm water canned food, to his dry food. If that doesn't work, then you need to find another food that he will eat. Stay away from all foods, that are sold in Grocery Stores and stores like Walmart. They are all Road Kill, and the worst possible thing, you can feed your dog. Never start a dog on human food, because it does not have the proper nutrition they need to stay healthy, and once you get them started on eating human food, they will not eat anything else. I feed my Chihuahuas Canidae All Life Stages, they love it and are doing great on the food!

  4. Do you feed him dry food?  You can change his dry doggie food, add a little can dog food to give him a change.  Don't feed him human food - he'll get the runs and he'll always be used to getting human food, and will never go back to his dog food.

He won't starve...when he is hungry he'll eat!

  5. Homemade dog food!

    INGREDIENTS

    3 pounds minced chicken meat

2 1/2 cups frozen vegetable blend (no garlic or onions), minced

    4 cups rice

    6 1/2 cups water

    DIRECTIONS

Place chicken, vegetables, and rice into a large saucepan or Dutch oven. Stir in water until the mixture is smooth. Place over medium-high heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender and all of the liquid has been absorbed, about 25 minutes. Cool completely before serving; store covered in the refrigerator.

    -------------------

    INGREDIENTS

    6 cups water

    1 pound ground turkey

    2 cups brown rice

    1 teaspoon dried rosemary

1/2 (16 ounce) package frozen broccoli, carrots and cauliflower combination

    DIRECTIONS

Place the water, ground turkey, rice, garlic, and rosemary into a large Dutch oven. Stir until the ground turkey is broken up and evenly distributed throughout the mixture; bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Add the frozen vegetables, and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool. Refrigerate until using.

    Hope this helps! =)

  6. You shouldn't give him actual people food, such as anything processed.  He's really not designed to digest that stuff.

Things he absolutely can NOT have are:

alcohol, chocolate, coffee, raisins, grapes, xylitol (sugar substitute) or onions.  Onion is *extremely* bad for them - even worse than chocolate!  Some people also recommend you not give a dog garlic since it is in the same family as onion, but it's still unknown, so some people will make dog treats with small amounts of garlic anyways (I do not).

Keep him on his dog food, but you can add some treats to spice it up a little, or add some wet food some days.  Dogs don't get bored with food the same way humans do - that's just humans projecting on their dog. In fact, if you change your dog's diet too quickly or too often, it can cause some major stomache upset, diarrhea and can lead to irritable bowel syndrome.

Things you can add in small amounts for them as treats:

Peanut butter (natural is better since salt and sugar are bad for dogs, though not specifically toxic), pure pumpkin and carrots.  Some berries can be bad for dogs too, so I generally stick with the veggies, though my dog likes apples as well.  He gets a large carrot almost every day.
