  1. ok, that's where you're wrong...icing something is for injuries that took 48 hrs to get there...u need to soak it in warm water...

  2. There isn't much you can do for shin splints - try some anti-inflammatories like Aleve, Ibuprophen or aspirin.  Mostly, don't run when you have them, it will make it worse and slow healing.

  3. Shin splints are the result of dehydration or low potassium

try drinking lots of water before the run.. or have a banana or both!

    cheers

  4. icing will only help numb some of the pain.

to prevent shin splints... you should buy new sneakers.  if you run on a frequent basis, you should be buying a new pair of sneakers every 3 months or so.

you will start to feel your legs get sore near the end of a pair of sneakers... you should go buy another pair... don't wait until your legs really hurt and your shin splints come back.

shin splints occur bc the shock is not absorbed someplace else... and instead it is absorbed in your bone.  with a new, good pair of sneakers...the shock is absorbed in the cushion of the shoe.. .and therefore.. no shin splints.

to pick out good sneakers... jump around in the store and make sure they have good bounce.

    hope this helps!!

    good luck!

    all the best :)
