  1. - Go vegiatarian one or two days a week.

    - Bring your own bags to the grocery store.

    - Start a compost pile (if you have the space).

    - Start a small garden (again this depends on space -- or find out if there is a community garden in your town).

    - Take vactions that are closer to home (you will be surprised to fun things you will find to do less than 100 miles from your own backyard).

    - Lower the themastat in winter a couple degrees and raise it a couple degrees in summer.

    - reduce, reuse, recycle (don't buy disposible if you don't have to).

  2. Why?  Are you such an  egocentric person that you think human can affect the world's climate?

If you think so, start by writting Gore about his carbon footprint, then follow with the Chinese, Indinas, Brazilians and others.

    Leave America alone.

  3. We live on some wooded acreage, and occasionally we have to take down a tree for various reasons.  But we have a strict 2:1 replacement policy.  For every tree or large shrub we remove, we plant at least two to replace it.  Not only are we replacing a vital part of our ecosystem, we are able to diversify the wooded land so that when a "nasty" comes around (like the Emerald Ash Borer that is destroying half my Ash/Beech woods), we aren't totally decimated.

  4. The easy and cheapest way is to change your regular light bulbs to Compact Florescent lights or CFL.

You might be able to get some free from your Utility Company.  I bought 4 CFL'S for $10.00.  If you use a 75 watt bulb, go with a 100 watt CFL.

  5. It all depends on where on the globe you live, but since it all boils down to energy consumption, preservation and efficiency, the greater onus lies on people in the highly developed and industrialized countries. In this regard, emissions from private vehicles are the number one polluters, so they will need to cut down on use of these in favour of public transport, cycling or walking where possible. They will also need to cut down on energy consuming gadgets in their houses and last but not least cultivate trees and plants which can soak up some of the atmospheric carbon dioxide.

  6. not have kids

  7. Recycle, teach your kids to recycle. Wash laundry in cold water, hang to dry if possible. Compost if possible. Change your lightbulbs to CFLs. Plant some trees.

Also if you're ever going to move, move close to work and school, less driving to either one.

If you're going to buy a new car, buy a hybrid if you can. Generally as well unless your family is huge, you can get by using a smaller car.

Also find out if the school your kids go to will have any field trips to recycling centers, if not then see if you can privately take your children to one, they can learn the mechanics of what happens, and it may increase their interest in recycling.

Lastly, enjoy the outdoors with your family. The more you know it and love it, the more it's worth to you to preserve it.

  8. 1.  Put up solar panels for electricity and hot water.

    2.  Ride your bike to the store instead of driving.

    3.  Grow your own vegetables (organically) to reduce the fuel consumption of transporting your food to the grocery store.

    4.  Become a vegetarian. Cows emit a carbon-based gas as they process their food, you know.
