  1. Niacin, or vitamin B3, can cause a number of symptoms if regularly taken at high doses (over 2g per day). These include skin complaints (itching, flushes, and rashes), indigestion, liver toxicity, hyperglycemia, cardiac arrhythmias, and birth defects.

If taken at extremely high doses, it can cause all of these symptoms, plus acute toxic reactions: vomiting, dizziness, hepatotoxicity, metabolic acidosis, hypoglycemia evolving into hyperglycemia, immune compromise, and niacin maculopathy (a thickening of the retina which can cause blindness).

The RDA (recommended daily allowance) of niacin is 2-12 mg/day for children, 14 mg/day for women, 16 mg/day for men, and 18 mg/day for pregnant or breast-feeding women.
