Question:

What can help all the floaters in my eyes?

I started with just a few floaters in my eye over a year ago. Today I have so many in each eye it's difficult to drive or simply see properly each day. I hate waking up every day because I know there will be all the floaters and I have to struggle to see all day long. My eye doc says floaters are normal and I can learn to live with them but I cannot. They blur my vision. Can anyone help me? Please......

I live in Chicago, if you know a good eye doc or something else I can try, please let me know. Thank you

  1. There is no sense in you continuing to live this way when the floaters can be surgically removed and you can have clear vision again.  A vitrectomy is an operation that will remove the vitreous and replace with clear fluid.  It has a success rate about like lasik.  I hear Dr. Kirk Packo at Rush Presbyterian has done several of these surgeries.  Might be worth it to consult with him. Check out this video and see if you are like these other people who beat this condition:   http://www.helenkellerfoundation.org/res...

  2. No doubt you have tried this but I'll suggest anyway -

    1) Use a non - prescriptive eye drop (like tears-plus) during the days to aid in washing the floaters out.

    2) Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion - get a referral to see an ophthalmologist.

    Good luck :)

  3. i have the same problem and it drives me nuts. my doctor says the same thing as yours. i have so many i can't deal with the daylight and specially when it snows i see them brighter and dancing all over my eyes. i hope you find good tips.

  4. Treatment for Spots and Floaters

Most spots and floaters in the eye are harmless and merely annoying. Many will fade over time and become less bothersome. People sometimes are interested in surgery to remove floaters, but doctors are willing to perform such surgery only in rare instances.

However, the sudden appearance of a significant number of floaters, especially if they are accompanied by flashes of light or other vision disturbances, could indicate a retinal detachment or other serious problem in the eye. If you suddenly see new floaters, visit your eye doctor immediately
