  2. Start doing squats twice a week. I added a foot to my vertical when I was 13 doing just squats and calf raises. Jumping higher usually means running faster too, because both motions are explosive and use the pretty much the same muscles. There's a good explanation of jumping here http://offto.net/jumpjump/

    To jump higher - Do squats and jump on trampoline alot (if you have one)
