I have a neighbor who is always coming over asking for butter, bread, oil, milk, to use my phone, etc. We kinda moved around the same place at the same time, so no one has been here longer, if that has anything to do with it. But its getting old really fast and I dont want to be a complete ***** and tell her "no, im sorry you cant have it" So what can I or Should I do?

  1. Don't answer your door when she/he comes over.

I am sorry this is happening to you. It's very rude.

The less 'sociable' you are with them, the more likely they are to leave you alone. It's true.

  2. Just say no.

    HTH.

  3. Tell her that you appreciate her friendship but that you are not a grocery store.  Then you can say that if you really need that cup of milk it will cost $1.  Maybe she will get the hint.  Only you can let others abuse you.

  4. Tell her you can't afford it.  Or just don't answer the door.  I don't let people borrow anything from me to begin with.

  5. Just tell her I'm sorry I just don't have it right now.

  6. Maybe your neighbor is poor. Perhaps this neighbor simply cannot afford to keep up on her groceries or phone bill. Seriously: in today's economy, who knows. She may regard you as being better established and therefore able to spare a little when things get tight for her. If you think this might be the case, and you really can afford a tablespoon of olive oil, try to be sympathetic.

Alternatively, maybe she's lonely. She may be using these visits as a means of getting to know you. Without any other knowledge of your personality, she may be using "cup of milk" as a conversation-starter. Socially awkward people sometimes do strange things; consider if this is a possibility, and try inviting her out for a cup of coffee.

So really, what are your motives for not wanting to give out butter, milk, etc? If you can't afford it, tell her so - nicely. If you find her personality annoying, tell her you can't afford it. But if you just feel like you're being used, consider all the possibilities before you tell her you can't afford it.

  7. When she asks you something, just say "simkinghurp muss grip mi herkingstockmon for wert mert". Repeat this over and over and over. She'll leave and never come back.

  8. START ASKING HER FOR STUFF ! ON A DAILY BASIS OR MORE THAN ONCE A DAY MAYBE SHE WILL GET THE HINT.

    GOOD LUCK!

  9. Thanks her for a lesson in assertiveness.  Learn to be assertive.  "No" means "No".
