Question:

What can i do as a US citizen to help fix the US economy, and strengthen the dollar?

very simple question, just want to know from others out there who probably knows more then i do. What if anything can any of us do as US citizens to help fix our economy and lower the costs of oil due to the loss of value of our american dollar?

  1. Simple question, but not necessarily a simple answer.  :)

    In short I'd say we need to increase our Gross Domestic Product and reduce the trade deficit.  That should (hopefully) start to prop up the dollar again.

    As far as an individual US citizen?  Produce the best you can at your current job in order to increase, no matter how small, the GDP.  Vote for politicians who you think will help the US produce more goods.


  2. It really is circular. If the economy is strong and interests rates are up then the dollars demanded by outside investors will increase, bringing the value of the dollar up. However, even though it pains us at the pumps, it really is good that the dollar is weak right now. American goods are cheaper to foreigners so we export more and american producers can still make money even though the US economy is slow and Americans are not buying much. As an individual you can save money. The money you save can be lent and used as investment purposes for companies, making them more productive in the long run and allowing for economic growth.
