  1. When you enlist at the MEPS ask for a station of choice and choose Hawaii. Make sure you get it in writing to.

  2. Hawaii is extremely hard to get.  Besides, it's a 365 day vacatio spot so if you want your family to visit you, it'll cost an arm and a leg.

You cannot be guaranteed your first duty station.  When you enlist, you enlist according to the "needs of the Army."  The only way you get a definite assignment is if your spouse is already in the military and you request married army couples program.  When I graduated AIT, I knew I was going to Ft Sill, OK without even getting my orders.

You'll need to talk with your Recruiter.  A lot has changed in 10 years and I do know that Career Counselors can "build" and assignment for you.  Who knows...ask what MOSs are in high demand in Hawaii.  You might get lucky.

  3. You have to learn how the Army works.  Demand you be stationed in Alaska or Montana.. That always works.

  4. When you are at MEPS completing your enlistment contract, ask the Guidance Counselor if he can guarantee your first assignment in Hawaii. SOMETIMES they can do this, depending on the job you select. Hawaii has many jobs available.
