im a long time user on here, just dont post much

ok, i bought a 2005 honda civic si in november 2007, it had 15,000miles on it when i got it. it ran great till the end of this last may, when all of the sudden the car just bogged down and died while i was driving it only had just over 19,000 miles on it.

i had it towed to the honda dealershhip i bought it from the next day.

they waited 2 days before they even looked at the car, then after they decided they couldnt figure it out they called american honda to see if warrenty would cover it. turns out i was 6 months out of warrenty.

so the car sat there a couple more days and then they decided theyed do a certified used car warrenty for it instead of a manufacture warrenty.

they tore the engine down, and somehow water got in the engine and the whole thing was rusted out. the cams were almost non existent so it had been that way for quite awhile. they couldnt figure out how it happened.

they ordered in an entire new engine, it was supposed to take 2 days to get in, honda didnt even send it out till 5 days later so it took 2 weeks for it to get in. after the engine got in they put it in and it still wouldnt run. they said the fuel injecters were bad so they oredered that in and 2 weeks later the car was running.

that was the first time it was in the shop, alltogether it was just under 2 months of me not haveing a car.

6 days later the car does the same d**n thing, they towed it to the shop. the starter was fried so they replaced that, it took a week.

they called me last thursday at 8:30 at night and said it was ready. starts up runs good, 4 miles down the road the car stalls and i have to push it into a parking lot. as im pushing the car smoke starts pouring out from under the hood, the bater and the starter literally burned out.

had it towed back that night, they replaced what broke and i got it back yesterday. today im comeing home from work and it stalls in the middle of an intersection and i almost got tboned by an f150.

iv called american honda to see if they could get me out of the finance and give me my money back. they said because its under a certified used car warrenty that they cant do anything and that all they will do is continue to fix it.

they have put 9k$ into this car to fix it and its only worth 12k.

iv tried to talk to lawyers but they all want me to pay up front before they even listen to what i have to say.

i really dont know what to do at this point. and im about to lose my job because i have no way to get there.

whats all your oppinions on this?

well i crashed it today, completely unintentionaly tho.

i was comeing up to a turn about 50mph and lost all power, no power steering or breaks and the motor stopped. i couldnt keep it on the road and hopped a 15" curb.

i dont think its enough for them to total it. it blew both right side tires, knocked the front bumper off and bent the right front rim. they havnt looked to see if there was any axle or frame damage yet because there concerned why it stopped.

my biggest concern thos is the airbags didnt deploy, i hit it had enough for them to come out. i busted my head open on the steering wheel because of it.

  1. wow is all i can say, and actually honda has gotten kinda lax on what they will fix lately even if the car is under a new warranty we know this because our 06 civic started leaking water in the floor board on the passengers side..after three weeks in the garage and a week in a garage out of town..noone could fix it....it happened while i was out of town.i took it to a garage they at least did work on it ordered new parts etc..the two places around me fixed nothing..we had no option but to trade the d**n thing in who wants a new car with water leaking inside it? anyway you  have all your papers where you have taken it to the garage and what they fixed etc? file papers at the courthouse..get a lawyer do not let them push you around..you have been in a wreck now as a result of this car..the right lawyer would scare the company into paying this off to get you out of their hair...its a product liablity issue now...good luck

and actually american honda does have some of the blame...they tell the dealers garage if its covered under warranty...the out of town honda dealership i took the car too said at 2 years old was weird that it started leaking ...had never seen it before there was a question as to whether it was under warranty they filed it that way....got home problem came back...took it to another dealer..didnt want to fix it said no problem...took it to another dealer....we dont have one in our town just one to the north and one to the south about 30 miles either direction..the one to the south said they saw no water..keep in mind...the air was on and it was streaming as my husband took this car to the dealers garage...but noone else sees the water? and then to be asked if we had the windows down while running the ac..does it matter its leaking water in the floor its not supposed to do that...i trust no garage when it comes to handling  manufactors warrantys..they are all bs

  2. CONTACT YOU LOCAL B.A.R. BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR THEY WILL HELP YOU SUE THOSE *******. I'M A MECHANIC AND THAT SOUNDS REAL FISHY ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON THERE. DON'T SLACK OFF YOU CAN OWN A NEW CAR AND HALF IF NOT ALL THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO YOUR ACCIDENT FROM THERE ERRORS.

  3. lawyer up and sue they will settel out of court keep detailed notes

  4. Hey that what get for getting Honda what you for think that an made here in the usa. when your car was made in Japan! sell it an buy an car made by the big 3.

  5. The experience you've been having is not typical of Hondas. If you've kept documentation on all this and your state has a lemon law you more than qualify for some kind of remedy.

You should be talking to the regional sales director or higher at Honda for any further resolution.A properly-placed email can work wonders, I have found. Keep working your way up the food chain. Eventually someone will respond and take corrective action.

  6. Sorry Jake, but you're barking up the wrong tree.  You're getting screwed by the dealer, not by american honda.  Honda had a responsibility under the new car warranty.  if i read your post correctly you bought a used car that had apparently been abused by the previous owner.  it should not have been eligible for the certified used coverage if the engine was trashed by the previous owner. looks like honda has been paying for something that it shouldn't under the certified used car warranty.

the dealer has full liability.  any incompetent dealer that would cut a car with a history of stalling loose without confirming it was repaired is asking for a liability lawsuit.  dealers are not owned by american honda, they are owned indepently.  the employees who were unable to diagnose your car work for the dealer, not american honda.

i wouldn't be surprized to learn your used car was a flood car from hurricane katrina.

best thing you can do is park the car.  don't let anyone touch it.  contact an attorney and pursue your legal remedies against the dealer.  you should be able to win the cost of getting around while your car is parked as part of your settlement.  The reason you want to park the car is that its evidence of their inability to diagnose the problem that allegedly caused the accident.  Accident investigators will be avaialbe to reconstruct the accident and will need to see the car in its current state to do the evaluation.

you can sue honda but from what you say it doesnt appear that they have any responsibility.
