i suggest you go down to the tate modern, schmooze around- if you don't wanna look at the art then have a nice coffee in the cafe and afterward................ there is a brilliant little place called baltic nearby which is on blackfriars bridge road- just of the cut. you don't notice its there but you push the door open, then a heavy curtain and there is a beautiful bar and restaurant( russian). i recommend getting a shot of the warm honey vodka then having a couple of bilinis with sour cream and smoked salmon.  if you don't fancy eating there walk down the cut towards waterloo where there is a brilliant range of restaurants then catch a play athe old or young vic theatre!!

Go to Camden Market. If you haven't been before it's an experience. Make sure you carry on up to Camden Lock markets too. Huge area inside and out. They serve great international food too. All along the street there are houses and shops with cars and other things sticking out of them. There's such a diverse selection of people there too. Great input!

Take a double decker bus tour.  Yes, it is VERY touristy, but if you're a tourist, it's a great way to go.  You get to see historical landmarks, sites of interest.  Make sure that if you do take a double decker bus tour, that it is a bus that will let you off and on for 1 price and that you can get back on at any of that bus company's many stops.  Here is the tour bus that I used when I was in London:

You have a choice of tours to take.  You can have a live-guided tour or a recorded tour.  I took the live-guided tour and thought that the guides had a great sense of humor and were very informative.

I was able to get off the bus, go to a site, then get back on the bus when I was finished.  

Whatever your time frame, do try to go the London Eye, Tower of London and St. Paul's Cathedral.  These were my favorite places when I was on holiday in London.  Buckingham Palace was also nice to see for the Changing of the Guards.  It's a whole production, not just a mere change of guards on duty.  There is a specific time that the guards change, so you may want to find that out before you head out to Buckingham Palace.

As far as dining, make sure you go to a traditional English pub, if you're of drinking age of course, and taste traditional pub grub.

Oh, and don't forgot The Tube.  It's a must even if you don't have a destination!
