What can i do to esure my two pet turtles will live and stay alive for a long time??

i got two baby turtles yesterday. i bought them a big tank with many rocks. i feed them everyday and change their water everyday. i also put them outside in the sunlight for a while. what can i do to make sure they stay healthy? maybe have a certain water temp?? anything?

IF you have allot of $$$$ and start out with a 55  gal plus size tank and great filtration system for Aquatic turtles I say do it!

They are the cutest!

Sliders, Cooters , painted ,map and yellow bellied are require the same care and feeding. I have two that are 36 yrs old!! Plus an 8 and 5 yr old.

I have had them in a pond for about 6 yrs now..

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light for  8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that  they need to grow.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system!

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily.

They need leafy greens for vitamins at least 3 to 4 times a week.

And a big tank 55 gallons or more..

I think mine have lasted so long together cause they were bought at the same time, same place. I beleive probably from the same batch.

I have ALWAYS feed them fish and leafy green..always a few pellets or dried tubiflex worm cubes a few times a week.

I have used a kiddy pool for outside with a 12x12x1" cement slab with 2 smaller cement bricks to hold up the slab and constructed a chicken wire t-pee over the top for predatory birds untill I got a tank.

i have had reptiles too. make sure they have a very good variety of food, not too cold water, and reptiles love sunlight. it seems like you are taking good care of them. if they do get sick take them to a vet.
