I think your question is really more about how you can help you son pay for college if you are receiving SSI payments. I would definitely recommend your son applying for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). He would do so during his senior year of high school, while he is applying to colleges.

If you earn less than a certain amount, the federal government will offer your son grants, loans, and work study to help pay for college. Go to the Library.  Let the librarian know that you need the Reference Section to look up Scholarships, or Grants.  They may have Braille reference books that you can read.  If not, Demand it!
