So I did signup for 14 credits, but being a commuter student (takes one hour to get to campus) I decided i wasn't gonna do ROTC today, because of the fact that i already have to spend tons of time on my physics class, chemistry and my acting class.

But anyway since I'm not doing ROTc, what things could I do to keep in shape? I know that I am out of shape right now, and when i did it when i was a freshman (1 year ago) i was in shape....now i am like 'out of shape

maybe i will take up running, weight lifting? any suggesions?

the other reason i didnt do rotc is because i dont really like to march around and stuff i think that it is for some people but like....i would be the one dreading marching....

anyway what are some good workouts, there is a gym up at my university that i can use if i want.

here is my list of things i am thinking of:

1) running

2) weight lifting

3) doing something with both

  1. well, my advice would be to be to take long walks and lift some weights, and keep your diet healthy.  Depending on how 'in shape' you want to remain, the distances you walk/run may vary, as well as how many weights you lift/individual weight of them, and how healthy the food you eat is... Theres healthy food, then there is c**p.(Healthy= a good salad, with lettuce, tomatoes, crutons, shreded parmesean, sliced chicken (oh great, now i'm drooling on my keyboard) c**p= plain lettuce.  (ew))

  2. You should definitely take advantage of the facility the school offers.  I also go to a commuter college but they don't include a gym with our tuition :(  Anyhoo, you're right on track with what you need to be doing to get in/stay in shape.  You should run 3 to 5 times a week and lift 3 times a week.  Best of luck :)

  3. RUN RUN RUN..... and most importantly dont eat and lay down right after....... BURN WHAT YOU EAT!!!

  4. If you are ever going to serve, you will regret not doing ROTC. ROTC pays you AND gives you structure. I think you should give more thought to your future then just the immediate semester.

  5. Stop driving and start walking.

  6. One thought that came to my mind is you can run anywhere but you need to have a gym to weigh lift so depending on how hard it is to fit exercise in you might think of what you can do anytime anywhere.

  7. Find a job doing janitorial work, UPS, or something else that will keep you moving. When you have to read a book for class, put a treadmill on a very slow pace and read there. Do push ups and sit ups every morning to wake yourself up. And finally, figure out some sport that you enjoy and get on a team. Make exercise a part of your life rather than something added on.

  8. Running is the best way to keep in shape.  It's great for your heart and builds muscle in your legs.

I'd advise running while wearing a weight vest.  That will help you build muscle in your chest, abs, and shoulders.  However, it is important to do about 30 minutes of resistance training at least 4 times per week.  Keep focused on your pushups and situps; they're free and can be done virtually anywhere.

  9. beer and rum not good

  10. Just keep running and watching what you eat. You can lift a little but not to much just cardio will keep you in the best shape.

  11. Running = Good

But you must balance speed with distance workouts. Run hills and intervals to change things up. Strive to eventually max your run on your Fitness Test.

Weight Lifting = Be cautious here

The military doesn't need body builders. You've got to be lean, strong, and have endurance if you want to do well. Go for low-medium weight with high reps.

Swimming = Good cardio, low-impact (won't have knee problems doing this)

Biking = Good cardio if you do a long road bike every weekend or so...works different muscles than running and scenic

Strive to MAX you Fitness Test. Don't be "that guy" who just cares about passing. Good luck. This website also has some neat workouts.
