What can i do to protect a hamster form a cat??

I have a cat and i want a hamster too. I'v had two hamsters before somehow my cat got both. I love my cat a lot but i'm worried he will get the hamster if i get one. Have any ideas??

I have 2 cats and hamsters.  I never leave the cats in the same room as the hamsters UNLESS I am there to supervise.  At night, the hamster room door is closed, so the cats cannot get in.  

When I see the cats getting too close to the hamster cage, I spray them with water from a small sprayer.  The cats learned real fast not to bother the hamsters, but I still supervise them anyway when they are together in the same room.

put one of them in a cage... I vote for the hamster.
