What can i do to reduce phosphates' damage on the earth?

Be careful to buy and use phosphate free detergents. In many states of the US those are forbidden. Be careful in the use of lawn and garden fertilizers; only use ones that match the needs of your garden and minimize the runoff into streams.  Otherwise the phosphate load is mostly a function of agriculture and its use of fertilizers, and that problem needs to be dealt with by government.
