  1. Turn up in the Teams Mascot Uniform! Will catch someones attention, then just play your natural game, with passion and commitment. Most of all have some fun and encourage those around you.

  2. do the basics well and dont be afraid to take a run

  3. just play as you normally would and dont be nervous or worry. just think positive.

  4. First do the basics correctly such as what your position demands of you, handling well, tackling well and playing at a fast pace. Then be a team player that combines and links up with team members during passages of play. Whatever you do, don't try to be the hero and showoff.

  5. Completely shave your head and eyebrows, arrive 20 minutes late, stinking of beer and just do the basics well...

  6. This is a very hard question to answer without knowing what position you are trying out for.  But make sure you do the basics correctly.  Things like, if you make a tackle make sure you stay on your feet when possible when you put them to ground.  That way you can try to rip the ball off them when they are on the ground.  Don't be afraid to put your body on the line.  And don't get discouraged by mistakes.  Remember to think!  If you see your team may lose posession put your head down and clear out regardless of what position you are in.  And don't forget to talk.  Encourage your team, tell them what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong.  This is a very important part of the game especially if you are a forward.

  7. Defence - Show the coach you have guts. Get low, use your shoulder and drive in at their waist and then push through with your legs. Always look to be the one initiating contact. Remember every team needs a hitman.

  8. When I made the midwestern select side for the USA, the standouts were the ones who 1. made hits and got right back up and 2. those who had good awareness carrying the ball...this means you run to your support, fake, juke and toss, good blind passes (obviously knowing exactly where a man is before throwing).  trying to break big runs is useless - coaches dont care since it rarely happens even if you are a back, its more about retaining the ball and being smart about where you run and how you get tackled.  All coaches expect you to know the basics at this level, its the more advanced ball control and aggressive tackling they like to see.  best of luck
