After 10 years working in nurseries i have decided to register as a childminder, and my pre reg visit is next tuesday, what can i expect.

obviously im used to ofsted inspections in nurseries but what will they do in the home? i have read the national standards etc and know they will ask questions and inspect the home for safety etc, but is there anything else i need know or that would be helpful to know before they come?

  1. ok, you wear the same hat as me so i want to give you a full answer!!

I have been inspected as a childminder and as a registered person in nurseries and it is very similar: what is it like for a child here? Positive contribution, enjoying and achieving, staying safe and being healthy, partnership with parents, leadership and management: they will look at your records and ensure that you are providing an inclusive service that values the unique child, communicates with parents, is in accordance with current learning and development(at present birth to three and foundation stage guidelines) thay will want to see first aid certificates, child protection training, stair gates, and any other information relating to visits, risk assessments, food and hygiene, training, etc:

Hope this helps, remember to mention that you are aware of the new EYFS introduced in Sept 08. Good luck, hope it goes well, any thing else i can help you with please contact me directly.

  2. From what i have seen on progams like Panorama as long as you turn up there won't be a problem it's a joke
