  1. Fruits such as apples (seeds removed), peaches, banana, melon, mango, grapes, oranges, strawberries, papaya, kiwi, plums, berries, pears, nectarines, grapefruit, pitted cherries.  Citrus fruits should probably not be fed more than twice a week.  Never feed avocado.

Veggies such as corn, carrots, peas, squash, radishes, bell pepper, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, green beans, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumbers, Chile peppers.

Greens such as kale, bok choy, spinach, chard, mustard greens, radish tops, beet tops, carrot tops, dandelion greens (be sure they haven't been sprayed).

Grains such as white, wild or brown rice, cooked past, multi-grain bread, plain popcorn, bran muffins, sprouted seeds, cous cous, oatmeal, kamut, spelt, quinoa, teff.

Proteins such as nuts, sunflower seed, cooked lean beef (fat removed) chicken, eggs, fish, tiny bits of HARD cheese (cheddar or jack), tofu, cooked beans (lentil, kidney, pinto, navy, black).

No caffeine, chocolate.  Don't feed processed sugar.  Watch that you aren't feeding much salt.

Budgies can tend toward fatty liver disease so watch that they don't eat too many nuts or fatty seeds.  Don't let him fill up on empty calories (like white bread).

Basically, if it's good for you it's probably good for your bird.  Just remember that he's tiny and don't let him eat five whole pasta noodles.    That would be tantamount to you eating them by the gallon :-)

  2. a great treat for the parrot family is millet. you can buy it at any pet store. my mom says that millet to a bird is like candy to a child. i think oranges are okay. my birds also enjoy bannanas and just about any kind of fruit. (never avacado, its poisenous) bread is okay for them to eat, but it would be better for them to stick to their natural diet.

  3. Hi, Tanya. There are plenty of good web sites out there run by people who  raise parakeets for a hobby- you should check them out. Basically, he can eat anything a regular parakeet can. Start with a good basic parakeet seed mix, and add some vitamin feed mixes, etc. Any pet store personnel should be able to walk you through the process. Fresh fruits and veggies can be cut into small pieces and offered. Some birds prefer cooked, others raw. Treat sticks, cheerios, millet, and other whole grain cereals make good snacks. Plain or fruit yogurt can be offered fresh in small amounts. Make sure he has constant access to clean water and some food all the time.

  4. fruits,hard boiled egg,salad mix,sweet potato,cooled rice(Be carefull!squash it first until its like crums)

  5. I feed my budgies Fiesta from Kaytee. It's healthy. Though i don't feed my keets, apples, oranges, bread, ect. Although fruits arn't harmful, i would stick to what they usually eat. If you buy your bugdies food from a local store watch out for these bad ingrediants like:

    Ethoxyquin

    BHA

    BHT

P.s. it depends on what kind of bread you have.

  6. No. I reccomend dipping wheat bread in soy milk when you feed it. It's a good source of protein. Dark green leafy lettuces are best. Grated carrots,strawberries,bananas,apples,oran... broccoli are eaten too.
