  1. Back when I used to have hamsters, I used to feed them plain old seeds, peanuts, and they only ate oatmeal one time by accident when I left the oatmeal thing open. Hamster mix was a privileged for my hamsters since I only bought them one bag every 2 months. they also ate lettuce and spinach. One time they all shared a tiny tomato my cat dropped from the table. Hamsters really love tortillas! specially if they are calientitos and ready to wrap in a taco...my neighbor's cat likes eating the masa used to make the tamales...somehow it hasn't gotten sick or anything and it's bones are almost as strong as a human bones. Most domestic pets I know have tortillas flowing through their blood(meaning they have a little bit of Mexican in them)!

  2. well you do need to go out and buy some as soon as possible but you can give them apple a bit of buiscuit plain bit of cereal carrot and some types of green veg dont give your hamster berries or bananna it make them ill hope this helped

  3. hamsters can eat all sorts as treats but they should have a good hamster mix as their staple diet. to liven up their diet you can feed small amounts of loads of different foods - i feed these foods daily or every other day.

foods you can give include most fruit and veg (cooked or raw but i would only suggest cooked potato and best avoid onion and garlic), salad items ie lettuce, cucumber, tomato. i have fed mine biscuit but again - not much as it is fatty. brown bread and a little butter is a nice treat too.

you are best sticking to fruit and veg for regular feeding - your hammies will definately appreciate it.

  4. hamster food watermellon all most inything

  5. The best food for hamsters is only the commercial hamster feed mix available in the pet shops. Hamsters need variety in their diet and the best way to do it is to get the commercial hamster feed that contains all the vitamins and minerals that your hamster requires. Give him the commercial feed and you are sure to have a healthy hamster for a long time.

You can feed him treats occassionally. However, the commercial hamster mix should account for 80% of the hamster daily diet and only 20% should come from treats.

Also remember any treat you give him should be unsalted, without sugar and without flavour. Visit the following link for a list of foods you can and not give a hamster. Take a printout and put in on a board for easy reference.

Some healthy treats for hamsters are -

    Bread

    Skimmed Milk

    Bits of cheese

    Bits of hard boiled egg

    Bran flakes

    Carrots

And don't give digestives or any types of biscuits to hamsters. They are processed food with added salt, sugar and flavour and is not good for the hamster's digestive system.

  6. here is a list of things you can feed them

    cheese

    apples

    grass

    sunflower seeds

    pears

    cabbage

    completely sugar/sweetener free crackers

    hamster treats

change the brand of hamster food

oh and if you have a female and male hamster put them in separete cages if you don't want to have to buy a billion more cages

  7. A hamster will usually only eat about a spoonful of food per day. If you really haven't got enough food, give them fruit and veggies. Biscuits and most breakfast cereals will be too sweet for them. If you have any unsalted nuts or seeds they would enjoy them or something like shredded wheat which has no sugar or salt.

  8. Well fresh vegetables are very good for them...but not too much as it could give them diarrhea, and since they tend to stash food away it can go off. If I was you, in the meantime, I would give them some unsalted and unsweetened breakfast cereal such as shredded wheat and some fresh vegetables, but get some hamster food asap as it gives them the right nutrients in the right quantities.

Also, sometimes I took my hamsters outside on the grass and let them eat some (keep a close eye on them though! They can run quick when they want!)

  9. wow how strange i'm running out of food too can't get them until tomorrow.

    well here are some:

    -carrots

    -apples

    -pears

-grass (but to some hamsters this is not really good for them so it's taking a risk)

    -cheese (again it's a risk)

    -cucumbers

-cracker (non salty again it's a risk some hamsters don't like this)

Things to not give him: human sunflower seeds (the ones that are salted or have flavors), not a huge amount of cheese, don't give him any lettuss or things like that those are always bad for hamsters, hamster treats, don't give him bread this can sometimes get clogged up in his throat.

WARNING: don't feed him too much veggies and fruits. This is only to be serve rarely not daily and really could mess up his stomach.

    Good luck =]

  10. My hammie Nibbles loves Pear.

    Try that.

  11. My son's hamster goes mad for carrots.  He will drag whole carrots into his nest with just his teeth - size for size that would be like a human dragging something the size of a tree trunk!

He will also devour green leaves (lettuce, broccili, cauliflower) but beware - this will make his cage more smelly - if you get my meaning!!!

  12. well my hamster gets

    cucumber

    tomatoes

    cheese

    peas

    sweetcorn

    rice krispies

    bread

    chicken

    ham

    beans

    potatoes

wayfers (not sure of the spelling)

    pasta

  13. Hamsters need a balanced diet with a good variety of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Some of the fruit and vegetables that your Hamster will enjoy are:

    Carrot

    Cucumber

    Broccoli

    Celery

    Apple

    Grape

    Parsley

    Sweetcorn

NEVER FEED YOUR HAMSTER ANY CHOCOLATE AS THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR PET'S HEALTH.

Hamsters should be fed the fruit & veg chopped up quite small, every day along with a small amount of dried pet food from your pet shop.

You might want to put the fruit/vegetables in a separate bowl to keep the hamster food dry too.

If you want to give them digestive then crush up a very small amount and let them try it. This is quite an unhealthy treat so it might be a good idea to avoid it as they will prefer fruit/veg.

  14. You should feed your hamster a basic hamster mix as the main part of their diet as this will also contain the vitamins & minerals your hamster needs to stay healthy.

There are many additional foods you can give your little friend to give some variety to their diet but there are some that should be given sparingly such as lettuce as this can cause liver problems.

If you go to the following website you will find all the information you need to ensure you feed your hamster properly.

  15. I'm not sure about the berries and bananas and defently not biscuits but how about some carrot sticks, the bit of hamster food you have left and that will keep them going til you go shopping, they wont starve in a day.

  16. Yes i think you could give them some pieces of digestive (as long as they're not the chocolate ones). Also mine like apple, tomato, cheese, carrot, etc. I think they like most fruit and veg. I dint think they can have banana or orange though because banana makes their cheeck pouches all gooey and it can go mouldy, and orange is too acidic. Hope this helps :)

  17. Loads of veg!! My hamster eats grapes loves them!!!!

  18. I have 9 hamsters so I have quite a bit of experiance and they can eat everyting fresh but they can not eat oranges, human salted peanuts etc however they can eat some plain biscuits nothing with chocolate!  oh and they LOVE yoghurt! and they are allowed that! just dont give them to much fresh fruit it could give them a upset tummy and dirahhea

here is a website with some imformation

    http://sps.nus.edu.sg/~neesohye/food.htm...

    hope this helps!

  19. Digestives have way to much salt for you hamsters body to cope with. Try dandelion flowers and alfalfa grass. This will give your hamster something different to eat. You can also get packs of food which have sunflower seeds in which im sure your hamster will enjoy.
