  1. The idea of using a video camera to capture places he likes and messages from his friends is AWESOME!  As someone who was deployed on two occasions, I can tell you that receiving something like that would have made my day!  However, when/if you go this route, try to send the video on DVD if at all possible.  Remember, those guys over there have to pack up all their gear when it's time to come back.

  2. Do you have a video camera or can you get one?  Take him to all the places he likes to go to at home, via the video camera.  Get shots of his friends, his favorite places etc.  Talk to him like he's right there with you.

  3. Dear friend,

In my opinion, the best gift you can send to your Army friend, now in IRAQ can be nothing material, but a sincere and heartfelt "Prayers & Best wishes for his success and a very Safe Return" to the Home Land."

Then thereafter you can have a happy re-union and can exchange your wishful gift to him, may be belated.

  4. you could send him something personalized from thingsremembered.com

  5. hooooooww close are you two?

  6. I love all the ideas you already have!  I also suggest an IOU, for a belated birthday dinner at his favorite restaurant for when he comes back.  It'll give him something to look forward to!

  7. maybe send him a little photo album of pictures of all the things familiar to him like a picture of his home, his pet, his old school, his favourite places he liked to hang out when he was home (or a coaster from his favourite bar, menu from the places he liked to eat), photo's of each friend, etc.  of course you can email all that, but it's nicer to receive it in an album.

  8. You could always get a pre-decorated box and add Hershey hugs and kiss's , and be like 100 kiss’s for the each and every day I thought about you (if he’s gone for 80 days put 80 kisses in it).

Send him a compass, “ so he can find his way back to you know matter what happens or where he is”.

Send him a bear, acknowledging him that your sending him a bear hug, and you love him and cant wait to see him.
