  1. Its only one day a year..... let him have his cake........ every baby should have a 1 year old picture of them smearing cake all over there face.  Its a tradition........

You could try a low fat ice cake if you truely are that concerned.

  2. what about a cupcake? It's smaller

  3. My son had a cupcake cake and he didn't even eat 1/4 of it because I don't give him a bunch of sweets either.

why not bake your own cake and instead of using sugar use applesauce here is a good recipe to use

  5. a bit of cake wont hurt him... but.. maybe you can make a muffin cake with coolwhip or something along those lines. A yellow cake with cool whip isnt very sweet :)

  6. Why don't you make him an angel food cake. It is low in sugar and has no fat in it at all. Use Dreamwhip as an icing so that he doesn't get as much sugar. That is what I do and this way he can still have cake on his first birthday and be more fun for him. Plus the pictures will still be great.

  7. You can make a homemade cake with less sugar.

http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,186,1571... this one without the icing only has half a cup of sugar. Just google nu sugar cakes. Another option is to make a mousse cake with no sugar

  8. Just have a cup cake cake or just cup cakes so that he only gets one. I know how you might feel, you don't want to get him started on sweets, but its a birthday, and having cake on your birthday is the best part. He's not going to get addicted to sweets by having just one cup cake. Its all about how much sweets you allow. Anyway, you could also have pizza too, with or without cup cakes.

Here is another question on here that is similar to yours... it has some really good ideas too. You should check it out!

  9. Aww, give him cake! That's the best part of turning ONE! =]

My son rarely eats sweets .. but I made sure he got a big piece of Birthday cake for his First Birthday!!

If you're concerned about what might be in it, bake it yourself! Or bake him some cupcakes and only give him 1 cupcake.

Or even give him carrot cake. But definitely give him that cake, and take LOTS of pictures!! He's only going to turn ONE once =]
