  1. If you are choosing subjects for being accepted onto an architecture course, I would say pretty much anything you are interested in will be OK. I would recommend art, but even that is not essential. (I did English, Physics and Maths - but would do English, Art and History if I was doing it again).

The kind of things you learn on architecture course are:

    Theory

    History of Architecture

    Building Science (inc sustainability etc)

    Technology

    Structures (fairly simple ones)

The biggest part of the course (80%), though is learning practically how to design buildings. Much of what you learn on the academic side is to allow you to understand what specialists are advising you - eg on structural design (which in reality will be designed by a structural engineer). You don't have to do many essays, but you do have to do lots of drawings.

The ramge of design varies - it could be urban design, it could be interiors, furniture or graphics. It is an enjoyable (if long) course, and nothing beats the feeling of seeing a completed building that you have designed.

  2. My boyfriend at uni studied architecture. He learnt about sustaining natural resources through building designs. he learnt about creating a building which represented or related to the surrounding area. He always said he wasn't very good at art, but he was great, because he had to be so creative to think up the ideas.
